WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — A Windber man is facing charges after punching a woman while she was holding a baby, driving away, crashing and then stealing beer from Sheetz, according to police. Authorities say 38-year-old Shawn Stephens is facing simple assault, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children and DUI charges. According to a criminal complaint, the incident happened Monday at a home along Locust Street when Stephens picked up the baby, threw the child to the woman and then punched her in the face.
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown officials say changes are coming to Central Park and Main Street as soon as next year. After holding an open house on Wednesday to get ideas from the public, officials say design options should be coming soon. 6 News reported in March that officials were talking about potentially relocating the War Memorial statues in Central Park, and they say that idea is still on the table.
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — An Altoona park is getting an upgrade to let people of all abilities feel more welcome. "Parents want to bring their children to the parks. Like my daughter-in-law with Miles. Her friends might want to come to the park, but Miles isn't able to participate," said Penny Brunner, Smiles for Miles organizer. Brunner’s grandson is the inspiration for her charity, Smiles for Miles. She said children with disabilities are often left out during trips to the park.
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- It was reported for years that the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown paid for settlements and fees involving alleged clergy abuse through insurance and investment profits. The Associated Press reported in May 2004 that "the diocese said it will continue discussions with various insurance companies to recover the cost" of a 21-person settlement that cost the diocese millions. "To provide for immediate payment, however, it will use the surplus from the Mutual Aid Plan, the deposit and loan fund for parish savings accounts,"
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been selected to his 10th NHL All-Star game. The 36-year-old currently leads the Penguins with 21 goals and is second on the team in total points. Crosby has now surpassed former Penguins' forward Jaromir Jagr for the second most All-Star game selections in franchise history. Mario Lemieux is only other player in Pittsburgh Penguins history with more All-Star game appearances, as he was selected to 13 throughout his career.

UPDATE:MOUNT UNION, Pa (WJAC) — On Friday, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency issued another boil water advisory for parts of Mount Union and extended Thursday's advisory, according to a Facebook post from the Huntingdon County EMA. An additional 40 customers, located on the Northside section of Mount Union, are now affected.
