CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A birthday celebration for a boy who died in the Stonycreek river was held Sunday evening. Family looked back at the life of 10-year-old Dakota Locher. Authorities say Locher fell into the river after he dropped a toy into the water and was attempting to retrieve it. They say first responders found the boy in about 15 feet of water. Family of Locher said Sunday would have been his 12th birthday.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Another trial date has been set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife several years ago. Giles was initially scheduled to go to trial in March but the case was delayed as his defense awaited the results of a psychological evaluation. In May of 2022, police charged Giles with homicide following a three-and-a-half year investigation into the disappearance and death of his wife Nancy.

MARTINSBURG -- The Central baseball team won its first-ever state championship in the PIAA AAA Finals last week, beating Holy Redeemer 8-3, an accomplishment that won't be easily forgotten by not only the school but the community. SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a man is behind bars after he reportedly broke into a home earlier this week and told the homeowners that he was God. According to the affidavit, troopers were dispatched early Monday morning for a reported burglary at a residence in Black Township. Police say the caller reported that is she was passing by the home and noticed that all of the lights were on inside.
University Park, PA (WJAC) — There is more controversy at Penn State as one of the university's most outspoken trustees is drawing criticism from trustee leadership on how he presented a proposal on honoring Joe Paterno. In a letter to Penn State trustee Anthony Lubrano, the university trustee chair and vice chair say he created a "public spectacle" at the February 16th board of trustees meeting. The trustee leadership also says interviews that Lubrano did with us here at WJAC and a local radio station were inconsistent with guidance that trustee media appearances be coordinated with the university's strategic communications team.
