A ribbon cutting took place in Somerset County Thursday morning as a childcare center showed off renovations.
The Learning Lamp has been undergoing renovations for the last two years for its Childcare Works for Somerset campaign.
The building, located at 451 Aberdeen Drive in Somerset, now has nearly double the capacity it previous had.
Natalie Hinton, director of the Learning Lamp, said they are the only STAR 4 center in Somerset County, meaning they have met the highest quality child care standards through staff education, learning environment, leadership and management as well as family and community partnerships.
ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — On Saturday, at the Blair County Convention Center, the 14th annual Setsucon began.
This two-day convention brings anime and Japanese culture to Central Pennsylvania.
Anime, cosplay and gaming are the three main focal points of Setsucon.

Mack Brady passed away just two weeks before his 9th birthday.
His dream was to grow up and be a Penn State goalkeeper.

EBENSBURG -- According to the Federal Communications Commission, it's estimated that about 70 percent of 911 calls are placed from wireless phones and that percentage is growing.
The problem is, 911 dispatch centers can't always get a precise location when you call in from a cellphone.
Last year, Cambria County 911 processed 60,000 calls. About 40,000 of those came from cellphones.

CLEARFIELD, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE #2: Clearfield County District Attorney William Shaw said police initially reported all four occupants were accounted for, but surveillance footage showed female human remains were found in the first floor apartment.
According to Shaw, gas valves were turned off in July.
The identity, cause of death and cause of explosion are unknown.
State police and the fire marshal are investigating.

PLUM BOROUGH, Pa. (WJAC) — Allegheny County police say the human remains found at anillegal dumping site in Plum Borough have been identified as those of a 67-year-old woman who was reported missing a year ago.
According to police, the remains belong to Elizabeth Wiesenfeld. She was reported missing by Whitehall police on April 30, 2019.
Authorities say a Plum Borough officer was patrolling an area known for illegal dumping and off-road vehicle activity when he found a suspicious bag containing the human remains.

First year head coach Tre'von Williams has transformed the Blue Jays’ hoops program in his short time there, but just a couple years ago he was ready to leave basketball behind.
"When my dad passed away, I decided to give up basketball."
After a successful career at Greater Johnstown, Tre'von Williams went on to play at Penn State DuBois, but in his final season, his life changed.
AKRON, Ohio (TND) — One person is dead and 24 are injured after a shooting at an Ohio street party.
The Akron Police Department said in a news conference that around 10 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a private residence in Akron on reports of a large gathering. Officers arrived on scene and observed around 200 people in attendance of a birthday party who were "taking over the street." Officers dispatched the crowd and no arrests were made.
