BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Commission has imposed a fine of 337.5 million euros ($366 million) on food company Mondelez, the owner of Oreo cookies and other snack brands, for obstructing sales of its products between EU member states, the bloc's executive arm said on Thursday. Mondelez owns the Cadbury and Toblerone chocolate brands as well as Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies, Triscuit crackers and Perfect Snacks nutrition bars. The Commission said Mondelez tried to avoid that cross-border trade because that could lead to lower prices.

WASHINGTON (TND) — As Memorial Day and the busy summer travel season approach, drivers are preparing for higher gas prices. According to AAA, the national average gas price is about $3.61 per gallon. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects this average to sit around $3.70 from April through September, similar to the same period last year. This anticipated increase is due to higher demand and the Environmental Protection Agency's requirement for refineries to switch to their summer blend of fuel, which is more expensive to produce.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A northeastern Pennsylvania jury has convicted a man of first-degree murder and conspiracy in what prosecutors called a revenge slaying more than a decade ago. The Northampton County panel deliberated for about four hours Tuesday before convicting 39-year-old Jacob Holmes. The panel must now decide whether the defendant should be executed or should spend life in prison without possibility of parole. Prosecutors said the Easton resident shot 24-year-old Miguel Aponte in 2009 out of revenge for the 2006 murder of a friend.
