CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Investigators with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections say a corrections officer at SCI Houtzdale is facing charges after planning to bring contraband to the prison in exchange for money last week. Investigators say the DOC was told by a confidential informant that Marvin Harris Jr. was coordinating with an inmate to bring Suboxone and papers soaked with synthetic cannabinoids to the prison in exchange for $2,500.
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Edward Shames, a World War II veteran who was the last surviving officer of “Easy Company,” which inspired the HBO miniseries and book “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 99. An obituary posted by the Holomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory said Shames, of Norfolk, Virginia, died peacefully at his home on Friday. Shames was involved in some of the most important battles of World War II.
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a Meyersdale man is facing charges, accused of "impersonating a public servant" and "illegally removing an animal" from a local farm. Investigators say on April 6th, troopers were dispatched to a farm along Greenville Road, in Greenville Township, for reports of a dispute over a farm animal. Police say 60-year-old George Porter allegedly stole a Mouflon Ram from the victim's farm.
PITTSBURGH -- Alex Pietrangelo beat Matt Murray 1:15 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams. The Blues recovered after letting a two-goal, third-period lead slip away when Pietrangelo's shot from the slot hit Murray and slipped under the crossbar for his second goal of the game. Paul Stastny had a goal and an assist for the Blues, Brayden Schenn and Colton Parayko also scored, and Jake Allen finished with 34 saves.
